Aquatic Performance & Recovery
For most people, water is a place to swim, play, cool off, or relax. For Stu Davidson, it became a lifelong environment for movement, recovery, fitness, and performance.

The beginning
Long before AquaFit Sports was founded in 2008, water was already shaping Stu’s life. Growing up in Montreal, he had an unusual introduction to the water: his nursery school had an indoor pool, giving him the opportunity to swim every day from a very early age. Annual winter holidays in Florida only deepened that connection.
Competitive swimming came early, but it also revealed the limits of repetitive training.
At eighteen, a serious car accident while returning from a provincial hockey tournament introduced Stu to rehabilitation, physical therapy, and deeper questions about movement.
Those questions led him to yoga in the early 1980s, long before it became mainstream, and later to martial arts, movement exploration, rehabilitation principles, and eventually aquatic training.
Recovery changed the work
After years of helping others in the water, my own body became the proving ground. I did not simply believe in the work. I had to return to it again and again.
In the past five years, cardiac procedures, ACDF neck neurosurgery, patella/quad tendon repair, clavicle repair, compression fractures, and herniated discs forced me to understand water from the inside out.
That personal recovery period became a deeper education. It changed how I look at progression, safety, fatigue, breath, balance, resistance, and what water can make possible when land-based movement is limited.
From One Pool to Many
After early research and development, AquaFit Sports officially launched in Miami in 2008. The practice grew one client at a time, one pool at a time, and one environment at a time.
Working across private residences, luxury condominiums, hotels, clubs, and community pools shaped an approach built around adapting the pool to the person — not forcing every client into the same routine.
Real-world environments
Every client, pool, and setting changes the work.
A Doctorate in the water
The greatest lessons did not come from a single course or credential. They came from years of observation, experimentation, and adapting water to actual bodies, complex limitations, and specific goals.
After my own physical setbacks, the work became even more personal. The same environment I had studied, taught, and built AquaFit Sports around became the place where I had to rebuild my own body.
The water became much more than a training tool. It became my teacher — revealing how support, resistance, timing, and progression can work together when the body needs both challenge and protection.
That understanding changed AquaFit Sports from a service into a specialized aquatic practice — shaped by lived experience, refined through years of client work, and grounded in what water can make possible.
A different way to think about water
Buoyancy takes the load off a healing joint. Drag resistance makes an athlete work for every inch. What changes is how the water is used.
Resistance, speed, control, and movement quality can be trained with precision.
Buoyancy and hydrostatic pressure can create a more comfortable path back to movement.
Water offers a scalable environment for staying active through age and change.
Experience & education
Formal education matters, but decades of hands-on experience working with athletes, active adults, post-surgical clients, stroke survivors, burn victims, autism spectrum clients, and nearly every major joint replacement have shaped the real education behind AquaFit Sports.
Founder statement
AquaFit Sports began as a specific service: bringing personal and private aquatic training to people in their own pools.
Over time, the work became something larger — a way to connect people with purpose through the power of water.
My role evolved from aquatic instructor to facilitator: reading the person, the environment, the goal, and the moment in front of me.
The philosophy became clear: adapt the water to the person, not the other way around.
Water has always been used as a healing medium. AquaFit Sports applies that ancient idea through purposeful movement, guided resistance, and an informed understanding of water’s natural properties.
Water is an amazing, beautiful, healing element. It is essential. We are water.
To simplify it as best I can, there are four elements we can control in the water: Range of Motion, Intensity, Duration, and Efficiency. But control alone is not the method.
When those elements flow together with the properties of water — hydrostatic pressure, buoyancy, and viscosity — in a way that matches the person, the environment, the goal, and the moment, they collectively become the method.
This is the flow — The Way of Water.
